Environment Court

The Environment Court (called the Planning Tribunal prior to 1997) is a judicial body established under Part 11 of the Resource Management Act 1991. It hears and decides on a wide range of matters under the RMA, as well as some matters under other legislation. The Court has registries in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch and holds sittings throughout the country as required. The Court is currently headed by Chief Environment Court Judge D A Kirkpatrick.
