Overview

The purpose of the Fast-track Approvals Act (Act) is to facilitate the delivery of infrastructure and development projects with significant regional or national benefits. ^{2544c248-33b9-452e-958c-50b837c2f3ae}

The Minister may issue a Government policy statement outlining the Government’s policies on the regional or national benefits of certain types of infrastructure or development projects. ^{12d14f27-d042-42ff-8a65-da9c64a2d522}

The Act modifies the process for approvals under specified Acts and allows an applicant to seek to apply for mutiple approvals at once.

There are two types of projects that can apply to use the fast-track process:

• Listed project – projects listed in Schedule 2 of the Act
• Referred project – projects that are not listed projects but have been referred to the fast-track approvals process by the Minister. Any person may apply to use the fast-track approvals process by lodging a referral application.

Please note that this section only includes the changes to the Act that took effect on 17 December 2025. The remainder will be updated once they come into force on 31 March 2026.
